Could The Use Of Asthalin Expectorant Will Affect The Shunt Function In A Hydrocephalic Baby?

Dear Dr., My girl is 9 months old. She is a hydrocephalic baby. she had undergone surgery and shunt is fixed in the month of August 2013. 2 times shunt tip was dislocated and 1 time blood clot was found. she had undergone 5 surgeries within 5 months. very frequently she is suffering from nose block, noisy breathing. Dr. prescribed Asthalin expectorant syrup. can i use this syrup frequently. Is it good for her? Using any syrup will affect the shunt function?

Shunt surgery is known to have complications like shunt dislocation, blockage , migration, infection etc.
As far as your question regarding asthalin expectorant is concerned , it will have no effect what so ever on shunt function
On the positive side, as it is advised by your Pediatrician, it will improve her respiratory problems and therefore any subsequent infection which may also infect the shunt.
