Could The Swallowed Coin Be The Cause Of Hard Stomach?

my daughter swallowed a quarter when she was younger. She didn't have any complications and they took an xray and found it in her stomach. This might sound silly but now she is 7 and has a very hard belly. She is active and doesn't overeat. Could the quarter be the problem?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your daughter and understood your concerns.
Noted that she had swallowed a quarter in in past and now that she is 7 and has hard stomach without any other symptoms indicate the following:
It is bit difficult to palliate that a follow up X-ray is not mentioned; if done and shows that the coin is there she will need a surgery.
If the coin is not present, then the obvious cause is something different.
I would advise you the following in such a case:
Get her to the Pediatric surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and order the investigations as follows:
X-ray of the abdomen.
Tests of stool, blood and urine.
Ultrasonography of the abdomen to see if there are any large intra-abdominal lymph nodes that are common at this age.
Once a proper diagnosis is made it is easy for the management as per the exact cause is found.
I find this answer helpful
