Could The Provastin Be The Cause For Tinea Versicolor?

I am taking pravastatin sodium 40mg. daily for my high cholesterol. I am unable to take Lipitor or Zocor as I have negative reactions to both meds. I have been suffering for the past year with tinea versicolor and am curious to know if the pravastatin is the reason for this? I had only a small area on my chest to begin with, and was given a prescription for sulfide selenium to wash with daily for 10 days. This was when I was taking a lower dose of the pravastatin sodium 20mg. Since the increase in my medication, my rash has spread to under both arms, under and all over my breasts, and down into my groin and vaginal area. It is now spreading onto the abdomen and the prescription sulfide selenium does not appear to be helping even though I used it daily for the past 2 weeks. Please let me know if it is possible that the pravastatin may be the cause. I avoid going to the doctors unless necessary due to the high cost, but if this is the cause, will set up an appointment with my PA. Thank you, Laurie Leighton

hi ma'm, thank u for approaching healthcare magic team. first of all let me clarify that tinea versicolor is a fungal infection of skin. it is not because of any drug reaction. if it is not treated properly, then it spreads to entire body. Because of the appearance of scaly type of rash, there is a chance of misunderstanding it as a drug reaction. most of times tinea versicolor does not respond to creams and lotions. it has to be treated with tablets. so advise you to consult a dermatologist and get treated.
