Could The Hives In The Skin Be Due To An Allergy Towards Dogs?

A puppy scratched my arm and now it seems to be a welt where he scratched. Is this a sign I am allergic to dogs? I worry as we have two dogs and I have had hives non stop for 3 months. What could be causing my chronic hived? I have seen every kind of Dr there is and no help yet! The welt from the scratch is not where a hive was also.

Hi,

I would recommend you to go for certain tests. I would recommend you to go for complete blood count, thyroid function tests, serum IgE levels, Anti TPO levels and urine routine examination. It could be because of the pets also. Take antihistaminic like tablet chlorpheniramine maleate 4 mg once daily at bedtime.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, Dermatologist
