Could The Damage Of Liver Be Due To Alcohol Consumption?

Hello I am a 48 year old white male....My last Liver test was slightly abnormal.
Hepatic profile : alt 57 ,ast 30 ,albumin4.0, alk phosp.56,bilirubin total 0.3,bilirubindirect0.2,bilirubin indirect0.1 ,total protien 7.2, LDH 140..........all in normal range .
Ferritin level at 303.....300 is top of range .
The GGT level is 120 but Was 140 6 weeks ago . should be 85 or less
I have been a beer drinker since my teens . Heavy Daily Use from age 21 to age 40 ( 3 to 6 per day) with occasional Weekends of heavier consumption. Now i limit to 1 to 3 per day somedays none.
I brew my own beers and wines. ( i just love a good IPA or Stout )
I injured my back Last year and consumed 800 to 2400 mgm. of Ibuprofen per day for a few weeks.
As well as had a beer or two daily.....stopped the ibuprofen use .Doc's Orders, when my AST shot up to 40 and my ALT shot up to98. Still Drank a beer or two a day ,and was retested after 6 weeks .
My ast /alt was in normal range again. But my Doc Tested my GGT level for the first time ever.
Came Back at 140.She said to abstain from Beer for a month. and retest. Quit drinking 5 weeks and my GGT dropped to 120.
Did I damage my liver with ibuprofen / alcohol consumption. or with continued abstinence , should my GGT continue to drop to a normal range . I have no symptoms such as Abdominal pain ,Jaundice ,or wierd poop, She wants to send me to a Gastro Guy (probably for ultrasound and more bloodwork) Or could it be that a 120 GGT is normal for me ,Since we really never had a baseline number to look at. I am 175 lbs and 6 foot tall . relatively healthy guy with normal cholesterol and triglycerides, But in my younger years was exposed to toxins in the autobody trade. and was not very health conscience. as most young men . Whats your take on my story? And Thanx for your time.

Hi there,

My take is that as long as you continue to avoid the alcohol and the ibuprofen, you should be fine! Your numbers went back to normal after healthy behavior, so that should be encouraging to you. I would continue to limit alcohol, and honestly I'd try to quit.

I hope I have answered your questions. Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions.
