Could Swollen, Discolored, Painful Vein Around Buttocks Indicate Blood Clot?

Hi, this is kind of embarrassing, so I was putting lotion on my body with my leg up on a bench, my husband (affectionately) come along and smacked my bum on bare skin, accidentally smacking harder than intended and not quite where he intended either. He ended up smacking a large vein near my bum toward inside more. The vein instantly swelled and hurt. It s gone down but is really bruised with darker bruising on it. Should I be worried about any damage he could have done to my vein? Ie blood clotting etc

Hello,

There might be a contusion or bruise. You don't need to worry about vein damage as it could not have happened. The following are my recommendations:
1) Avoid sitting on the bruise
2) Keep ice on the bruise to decrease its size
3) You can take tab. Chymoral Forte once daily for 3 days to reduce the size of the bruise and decrease pain.
If it doesn't decrease in size or it becomes severely painful, please do consult a general surgeon for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
