My daughter is 16months old and was diagnosed with an ear infection, but woke up this morning with her eye swollen on the same side that has the infected ear. She has had 7 ear infection in the past year so i am very used to the ear infection, but her eye has never swollen like this before. Is this normal?

Hi,

It is possible that the swelling in your daughter's eye is related to her ear infection. This is because there is a connection between the middle ear and the area around the eye, and swelling or inflammation in the middle ear can sometimes spread to the surrounding tissues.

However, it is also possible that the swelling in her eye is unrelated to her ear infection and may be caused by another condition or infection. It is important to discuss this symptom with your daughter's healthcare provider, who can perform a thorough evaluation to determine the underlying cause of her symptoms and recommend the appropriate treatment.

In the meantime, you can help alleviate your daughter's symptoms by providing over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, and applying a warm compress to the affected area. Make sure to follow the dosage instructions carefully and avoid giving aspirin to children. It is also important to continue giving her prescribed antibiotics for her ear infection, as directed by her healthcare provider.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
