Could Severe Itching Be The Symptom Of MRSA Infection?

Yes, I have what my doctor referred to as a mild case of Mrsa, & she has since discharged me. However, now I have one spot that is severely itchy. I called her office today & she cannot see me until next week. None of my other spots itch. My question is can it be a flare up of the Mrsa & is itchiness a symptom of Mrsa?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

MRSA infection causes sores that are itchy but not painful. When blisters are formed and fluid oozes out it spreads infection and cause flare up if left untreated. MRSA infection can be treated with topical application of Clindamycin cream / ointment in the area affected. Ointment Bactrim (trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole) also works well. Take care of your hygiene. If the infection is severe, the treating doctor may prescribe a course of antibiotics (Augmentin or Cephalosporin).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
