Could Pain In Leg After Driving A Lot Be Due To A Blood Clot?

Hello....I drove about eleven hours yesterday. I stopped several times and got out and walked around. However when I arrived at my destin ation I had a cramp in my left leg. I took some pain pills, including a couple of aspirin when I arrived...and some ibuprofen later on. I have had the same pain all day today. Of course what I am worried about is a blood clot. Other than going to the Dr. do you have any suggestions?

Hi!
I had gone through your query and understand your concern!
I will write you some information about blood clots in the legs so it will be more easy for you to understand what is happening with your leg.

Blood is meant to flow; if it becomes stagnant there is a potential for it to clot.
A thrombus can form if one, or a combination of the following situations is present : prolonged travel and sitting, hospitalization, surgery, trauma to the lower leg with or without surgery or casting,Pregnancy,Obesity.

Blood clots may form in the superficial vein system or in deep vein system. Blood clots in the superficial vein system most often occur due to trauma to the vein which causes a small blood clot to form. Inflammation of the vein and surrounding skin causes the symptoms of any other type of inflammation including:redness, warmth, tenderness, and swelling of the leg.
Often the affected vein can be palpated (felt) as a firm, thickened cord.

The symptoms of deep vein thrombosis are related to obstruction of blood returning to the heart and causing a backup of blood in the leg. Classically, symptoms include:pain, swelling, warmth, and redness.

So If your leg hurts but it looks normal ( I mean without any redness, swelling) and If it has a normal temperature when you touch it(no warmth ) and it isn't tender I think you don't need to worry, the probability you had blood clot is minimal.
Your leg pain may due to muscular spasm.
Spasms may occur when a muscle is overused and tired, particularly if it is overstretched or if it has been held in the same position for a prolonged period of time. You can take painkiller (Ibuprofen),muscle relaxant ,do some massages to your leg.

Hope it answered to your inquiry.
Take care.
