Could Pain In Knee While Walking Due To Fall With History Of Unstable Knee Be More Than Sprain Or Bruise?

I have an old knee injury that has left me with an unstable knee. 3weeks ago I feel straight down landing on my feet, both knees where locked. My bad knee hurt seemed to be hurt, but I thought it was just a bruise. It still hurts to the point it wakes me at night. The more I walk on it the more it hurts and swells. Could I have done something worse than a sprain or bruise?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
From the description, I feel that you might have sustained a SOFT TISSUE STRAIN involving your ligaments or tendons.

This will generally resolve within few weeks by the following measures -
* Rest to the injured part and dont involve in activities which puts additional strain on the injured tissues.
* Ice packing should be applied for about 20 minutes once in every 2 hours.
* Analgesic & anti inflammatory medications

Get an Xray done to ruleout any bony injury.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
