Could Pain Across The Area Below The Rib Cage Be A Sign Of Fibromyalgia?

I have been experiencing pain on both sides of my lower rib area for the past four hours and am concerned if this could be the onset of pleuracy (which I experienced a number of years ago) or if it is related to my Fibromyalgia. I prefer to be consulted by a physician with knowledge of Fibromyalgia.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It might be pleurisy or costochondritis. Fibromyalgia is very unlikely. Fibromyalgia generally have long duration of course and may have pain at multiple sites. Does it tender to touch. However get an ECG some to rule out CA disc causes for chest pain even though chances are in lower side. You can take analgesics like Tramadol or Diclofenac for pain. Anti-inflammatory drugs like Serratiopeptidase can be added. If symptoms persist, consult a general practitioner and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
