Could Low Haemoglobin And Iron Levels Be Due To Lymphoma?

For a few years now I have been suffering low hemoglobin and low iron, I am having to get IV iron transfusions each month and at least one blood transfusions a year. The Dr has tested me for everything and can find nothing. Do you think this could by some form of lymphoma and should I be tested for it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, Welcome to HCM.
Low hemoglobin content is called 'anaemia' amongst which iron deficiency is common. It can be due to many conditions associated with blood like Thalessemia.
Lymphoma is of two types: Hodgkin's and Non-hodkin's.
Lymphoma generally present with lymph node swelling in various regions of the body like neck, axilla, groin or may present as mediastinal mass behind sternum in chest. In lymphomas, hemoglobin is not generally affected, but WBC counts are increased.
If you have a doubt about such conditions, get a complete blood count with peripheral blood smear done. Also bone marrow aspiration cytology will confirm the diagnosis.
Hope this information finds useful.
