Could High Fever And Sore Throat Be Immediate Matter Of Concern?

My 14 yr old son has 102.1, sore throat, small cough, snotty nose, and some left arm pain. Gave him 12 hr sinus med at 10am and then just now gave him 2 ibuprofen and 1 mucinex. he is never sick. So obviously he has caught a virus. Does this sound emergent or does it sound like dr can wait until tomorrow?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

A fever of 102.1°F is considered high and combined with a sore throat and other symptoms, it could be an indication of an infection. While it may not be an immediate emergency, it is advisable to seek medical attention as soon as possible, especially if the symptoms worsen or do not improve within 24-48 hours.

It is recommended to monitor your son's temperature and symptoms closely, ensure he gets plenty of rest, and encourage him to drink fluids to prevent dehydration. If his condition deteriorates or he experiences severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, or confusion, seek medical help immediately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
