Could High Ck Level Be Related To Diabetes?

My wife is type 1 diabetic since 5 years old. She is currently on an insulin pump. My wife is 43 years old.During the last four months my wife said she has a lot of pain in both her arms. My wife went to her GP and he told her that her arms were inflamed. My wife took a blood test and it told her that her ck level is five times higher than it should be . Is the high ck level related to the type one diabetes since she is diabetic for a long time. My wife has been referred to a rhumatologist which we will see next week. What questions should we ask him?

Hello,
high CK levels are not directly related to diabetes. CK can rise in certain conditions related to diabetes, like lipid lowering treatment, serious hypokalemia (low potassium levels) etc.
In diabetic patients it is very important to exclude infection whenever inflammation is present. Since your GP already evaluated her symptoms it's likely there is not suspicion for the above conditions. Referral to the rheumatologist implies a suspicion for myositis which is an inflammatory disorder of the muscles.
There is nothing special you should ask. Just let your wife describe her symptoms and the rheumatologist will do the rest. In case she's given corticosteroids as treatment bear in mind that her insulin dosage should be increased.
Kind Regards!
