Could Fatigue Be Due To Sudden Withdrawal From Amlodipine?
I m currently on a daily dose of amlodipine (not sure of the dosage). I recently went on a trip and forgot to bring my pills with me. On the second day of the trip I d had a moderate amount of alcohol and swooned. Could the sudden stoppage be a factor of my fainting spell?
Amlodipine belongs to the group of antihypertensive medications known as calcium channel blockers (CCB) that is used in the treatment of high blood pressure and prevention of heart attack and stroke in the future. Stop taking Amlodipine may lead a variety of unwanted and unpleasant side effects which is known as withdrawal syndromes. Because, Amlodipine can take up to 11.5 days to fully evacuate the body and patients with using of Amlodipine can suffer from withdrawal syndromes for this period of time after taking their last doses of Amlodipine.
Withdrawal syndromes of Amlodipine are raised blood pressure, fatigue, faintness, vertigo, chest pain, dizziness etc. Again, stopping Amlodipine can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke due to rise of blood pressure in some patients. You shouldn't stop taking this medication abruptly and without informing your prescribing doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
