Could Facial Hair, Insomnia And Depression Be Related To Thyroid Problem?
Wondering if my excess facial hair (was on just ONE side of face, now on BOTH), as well as me constantly chilling, and insomnia, as well as depression ... can this have to do with thyroid problems? My doctor tested with blood tests and said thyroid was within proper range...
Hello and welcome to HCM, The symptoms of constant chilling (or feeling cold), insomnia and depression could be due to abnormalities of thyroid function (hypothyroidism). Is there previous history of abnormal thyroid functions or an enlarged thyroid gland. In case there is past history of abnormal thyroid functions, repeat thyroid function tests needs to be done. Third generation TSH and free T3 and free T4 are more sensitive parameters than the routine thyroid tests. Growth of facial hair is not seen in abnormalities of thyroid. Growth of facial hair is associated with abnormalities of sex hormones. I suggest you to get testosterone levels. Consult an endocrinologist for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management.
