Could Difficulty In Swallowing And Memory Loss Be Due To TMJ?

Hi. I have severe headaches daily, one side, jaw pain, lump in jaw that moves, lump under tounge. I have not felt well for about six months. I can get a straight answer because of my insurance, which is Obama Care. I was laid off, so I had no choice. I have trouble swallowing, sleeping, eating, memory and thinking issues. I ve been told I have TMJ, but where do I go from here?

Hello,
Your multiple symptoms can be related to TMJ disorders. There are preventative measures that can reduce stress on the TMJ such as a mouth guard to wear at night. Anti-inflammatory medication can help reduce discomfort. Diagnostic tests including a panorex or cone beam may help better evaluate your joint.
Plan a visit to your dentist for a full exam. You may have an infection since you report a lump. This can be controlled with an initial dose of antibiotics and followed by recommended treatment which may include a root canal or extraction. A salivary gland disorder or growth needs to considered from your description.
You should have some blood work completed to rule out systemic disorders if a dental related cause is not diagnosed and treated. Your complete medical history needs to be reviewed. Start with simple diagnostic tests. You report many symptoms.
Make sure that you are well hydrated. Being dehydrated can often contribute to some of your symptoms. Balanced vitamins and good nutrition is something to keep under control as well.
Thank you for your inquiry. I hope that my suggestions are helpful.
