Could Diarrhea, Weight Loss And Stomach Ache Be Caused Be IBS?

I have had diarhea and stomach pain, weight loss for the past 4 months. Stomach ache is the worst every day starting at 4:pm and until bedtime. Having a glass of wine seems to be the only thing that gives any relief. Had all the tests. Dr. Says it may be ibs.

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
Weight loss if not intentional is not a feature of IBS. In fact weight loss should raise the suspicion of organic causes of diarrhea.
Malabsorption, tuberculosis, hyperthyroidism are some of the causes of diarrhea and weight loss.
So tests should be done for malabsorption, thyroid function and a colonoscopy test should be done for evaluation.
I hope that answers your question.

Dr.Ratnakar Kini
