Could Cancer Running In Families Be Due To Genetic Factors?

Multiple aunts and uncles in my mother's family (including my mother) have died or been treated for various forms of cancer occurring between the ages of 30 and 64. None of my grandparents or other relatives have died from cancer, and while they lived long lives, my grandfather did smoke compulsively. Could all of their cancers be caused by environmental factors, is it typical to see such trends in families, or could there be genetic factors?

Welcome to HCM
This is Dr Amit. Cancer basically occured due to accumulation of various factors like environmental, genetic, lifestyle etc. But some cancers like breast, ovarian cervical has got more genetic predisposition than others and environmental factors has got more importance in cancers like lung cancer. So basically it's a multi-factor disease
Feel free to ask if you have any other query
