Could A Panic Attack Be Causing Neck Swelling, Heart Palpitations, Anxiety Attacks?

My twenty-two-year old grandson had a panic attack/ possible drug overdose a week ago. He feels like he has a swelling in his neck where he can feel his heart beat, and is convinced something is wrong with his heart. EKG at hospital last week said his heart was okay. Could something else be going on. Also, he had taken 3 of the prescribed valium this week because he thought an anxiety attack was coming on. Should I just give him his prescribed valium when he feels like he s going to need it. The ER doc gave him a prescription for 15 tablets.

Hi
Welcome to HCM
Understandimg the given information and considering all other investigations being normal, an anxiety related condition appears most likely.
Taking three tabs of Valium is certainly not proper and can be dangerously sedating. Rather a long acting less potent benzodiazepines like clonazepam can be considered and discussed with your treating psychiatrist. If they are panic attack s in such case one can think of shorter acting benzodiazepine to be taken as required.
Other important thing to known it's the abuse potential associated with these drugs. It should not be taken not for more than few months as it would lead to development of tolerance and dependence. At the same time abrupt discontinuation can lead to serious symptoms like even seizures in severe cases.
Therefore to advice, I would say that do consult these doubts and any changes regarding its use with your treating psychiatrist.

Welcome for further suggestions
