Could BP Being 164/84, Dizziness, Headache After Being Treated For Migraine Related To Stress?

I was in the ER Thursday because my blood pressure was 160/110. They did a cat scan and ekg, both which came back normal. They told me it was stress related and I have migraines. The gave me a shot of Benadryl and something else for migraines. Of course, that took the pain away, and they sent me home. I felt fine the rest of Thursday and part of the day on Friday. Last night however, I once again went to bed with an ice pack and woke up this morning and it started all over again. blood pressure 164/84 and been dizzy with a headache. I am a 42 year old female other wise in perfectly good health. I do not smoke. I did however just lose my 13 year old son in august which obviously is going to cause extreme stress. what should I do. I am getting frustrated not feeling well.

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

I understand that this must be a very difficult time for you. Some of the symptoms which you have mentioned like headache and dizziness could be stress-related. Now, though stress / anxiety can cause an elevation of blood pressure, if it remains persistently high, then other causes need to be ruled out.

At this point, the next appropriate step would be to do a regular BP monitoring for a few days, to see if your BP is remaining persistently high or if it is shooting up only during times when you become anxious and stressed out. This will help determine the further course of action. So, please discuss this option with your doctor.

Wish you all the best.
