Could 18 Week Anatomy Scan Showing 16.2 For Legs And 16.4 For Arms Suggest Baby Being Dwarf?
I m 5 3 and my husband is 6 6 and I had my 18 week anatomy scan for the baby and the limbs came out 16.2 for legs an 16.4 for arms and I am 18.2 weeks and the head is 17 weeks.Doctor is sending us to genetic specialist because it could be a dwarf.Could my due date be wrong by like a week or 2 or could or could this really be happening? No family history in either of our families
Hi, Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic. The average humerus (arms) length at 16 weeks is 20 mm and the average femur (leg) length at 16 weeks is 20.3 mm. As per your history, yous and yours husband height is not significantly low. Even if due date is wrong by 2 weeks the scan shows less length for both the arms and legs. It is better to get a full anomaly scan done and determine whether the fetus has any other problems or not and accordingly intervention can be done. It can happen without family history as well as many of the genes are recessive and don't express every time. Some sporadic changes also occur in the chromosomes which can be assessed by chromosomal evaluation only. Please get a full anomaly scan done and then if required a genetic checkup. Hope it sorts your problem. Regards, Dr. Pankaj Nagori Specialist Radiologist
