Child With Pain In The Knee After A Fall. Difficulty In Straightening. Need Immediate Care?

My son fell at the park face first and slid across the ground. His right knee hurts and does not want to straighten it. It feels a little warm to the touch with a little bit of swelling on the lateral aspect of knee. He is fine if it is bent. Refuses to put weight on it. Gave him ibuprofen and used ice. Should we wait it out till the morning to see if any improvement??

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
The symptoms are suggestive of soft tissue injury. So, it is alright to wait till morning. In the meanwhile, continue the analgesics and do not let him walk or bear weight on the affected leg.
If you notice too much swelling in the affected area, you may want to take him to ER earlier than planned.
Please get back if you require any additional information.

Best wishes,
