Child With Diarrhea. Have Viral Infection. Had Fever. Need To Go To The ER?
I have a 2 1/2 year old that has had sever diarrhea for 5 days. He normally weighs 34 lbs. and know weighs only 31 lbs. He saw his pediatrician on Wednesday who diagnosed him with a viral infection. He has slept and/or laid around most of the day which is very unlike him and is not drinking very much in the way of fluids. He had fever earlier in the week but has not had fever since Thursday. Should I take him to the ER?
After reading your post, it seems that your child is having infection of the gastrointestinal tract and needs medical attention.
There also seems a possibility of dehydration.
He should be given oral rehydrating fluids to compensate the loss of water and electrlytes.
He also needs a probiotic preparation alongwith antibiotic and antiamoebic to treat the infection.
If he is not taking orally, he should be taken to the ER to give the medicines in injection form.
Give him light meals prepared in hygeinic conditions.
I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
