Child With Chesty Cough, Difficulty In Breathing. Predcort And Nebulizer Prescribed. No Relief. Need Advice
My 4year old son has had a chesty cough for several weeks now. Last week I took him to the ER when I heard a clear wheeze and what seemed like difficulty breathing. He was assessed and got a chest x-ray done which showed a chest infection. He was sent home and put on Predcort, Nebulizer (saline and ventolin solution) and an antibiotics to cover him. He seemed to be getting much better and after the 3 day Predcort was over he seemed to stop progressing as well. He went back to his doc and was put back on the Predcort. Now the dose in lowered and the chesty wheezy cough seems to be back again. Still giving Nebs and Anitbiotics. But wondering why this chesty wheezy cough continues to persist. This is very frustrating. I would like this to be resolved so we can return to normal. many thanks.
If the cough is persisting for several weeks despite treatment I think your baby should be reassessed and investigated. Self treatment is dangerous and I request you take him to the doctor once again. Blood counts, mantoux and repeat X ray chest may be required.
Is he breathing fast? Are there any chest retractions? Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care.
