Child Having Blood In Urine. Cause?

Trying to figure out if I should get a 2 opion for my 12 year old daughter she has had blood in her urine and the whole info. on and off since 6/11. had a scope done to rule out tumor , cyst , cancer in May 2011. the last test showed the following info.As you know the urine protein excretion was normal. So, 4/5 are within normal. Of note the albumin/cr ratio are generous. So, at this point, the cause for gross hematuria is not clear. I am not too concerned about not identifying the cause. As we said before, major concerns were excluded. The hematuria may be related to too much calcium in the urine (conflicting results) or to a minor abnormality in the kidney (glomerulonephritis). Time will tell.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
Blood in urine is due to disease of urinary tract from urethra to kidneys.
The common causes in children are urine infection, stones, worms like schistosomiasis, glomerulonephritis, Ig A nephropathy, high urinary calcium.
Some times underlying blood clotting defects also cause blood in urine.
Systemic evaluation to be done and regular follow up is required to know the cause for blood in urine.
If cause is not revealed on blood work, kidney biopsy may be required.
I suggest you to consult a pediatric nephrologist for further management.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
