Child Having Alcohol Breath, Urine Smells Strange. Giving Casseine-free Diet. Sign Of Intoxication?
My wife says my 2 1/2 Y/O child has a alcohol breath and seems to act strange. she says his urine smells strange since a couple of days. we don t use (drink) alcohol and any medicine is properly secured (they don t have access). A couple of days ago my wife stopped giving them milk (for a casseine-free diet ). Are these signs of intoxication?
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
The concerning things about your child are:
1. Alcohol breath
2. Acting stangely,
3. Urine smell also strange color
4. All these complaints are of recent onset
5. Your child age - as he can't give any ingestion history and they try to keep everything in to mouth to
explore.
I advise you to superwise your son every day about his activities, keep everything out of reach, and consult a Pediatrician for the examination of your child and to evaluate him for any ingestion of drug or alcohol.
Hope I have answered your query.
It is not unusual to have different smell in urine due to inborn errors of metabolism. However, it is present at an earlier age than what you have mentioned. I suggest that you consult your doctor and get the screening test done to exclude any inborn error of metabolism.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
