Child Have Problem Of Opening Of The Mouth For Breathing. Advised For Sugery Which Make Me Worried. What To Do?

My son has been breathing with his mouth open for almost 6 months now, he snores very bad at night and stopped in between breathe. We saw an ENT doctor, who said , his adenoid, might either be inflamed or too big, without a proper test, but recommended surgery. Am very skeptical about surgery, even though he's been on nasonex for a long while, am still hoping the nasonex will shrink his adenoid and make him better. Do you think am on the right track. The doctor also prescribed singulair to be used with the nasonex

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

What is the age of your child?

Around 5 to 6 years tonsils and adenoids usually become hypertrophied, enlarged and may cause nasal obstruction, snoring, and mouth breathing.

As the age increases the tissue will shrink and the problems will subside.

But if these symptoms are more frequent surgery may be needed to remove the tonsils and adenoids.

Continue the medication as advised by your doctor and be in regular follow up to assess the severity and frequency of his symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
