Child, Have Pain Between Ribs And Hip On Left Side. Ate Small Stick, Normal Appetite, Bowel Movement. Meet Doctor?

My 4yr. old daughter complains of hip pain and when she shows me it is between her ribs and hip on left side. 2 weeks ago she said she ate these small stick on gems that you would stick on paper or fabric. I don't know what to make of it because she says she ate these gems and swallowed them and then she says she didn't. Her pain in her left side seems to coincide with how long ago she said she may have eaten these gems. She has a normal appetite and her bowel movements are normal. Is this growing pains or should i take her to the doctor for an xray.

Hello Theresa,

Your daughter ate some material on gems few days back and you feel at the same time she developed this pain between her rib and left hip. These two problems don't seem to be related. But before I can help you I need to know a few more details -

1) How severe is this pain? Is it just a vague pain or severe enough to limit her activities or wake her up from sleep? If you feel it is severe then you should visit a physician for detailed examination and check up.
2) How many of those things present on the gems did she ingest and how big were they? By your description i believe they were the size of gems. If she ate just 4-5 of them, you need not worry. But it will be better if you can post a picture of what she ingested because it is difficult to understand what she exactly ate.

If her pains are mild, vague pains not limiting her daily activities you can wait for 1-2 weeks and see if they subside. If the pain still persists then I will advice to visit a paediatrician for the same.
