Child Have G6PD And The Medication Was Changed With Consultation. What To Do Now?

My mom had changed my brother's vitamins who has G6PD without asking his pediatrician. She just saw 'Lecithin' on the back of the vitamin's box. What will be the effects of it to my brother if he had already taken it for a couple days and it's twice a day? She's also wondering if she could reduce the ml to be given to him. Should she reduce it or stop giving it to him?

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

You have not mentioned the composition of the medicines being given and the dosage without which it is difficult to say whether the dose can be reduced or not.

Giving a higher dose of vitamin should not cause any problem. However the fat soluble vitamins, A, D and E, should not be given for a prolonged period of time as they can cause toxicity.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your brother all the best.
