General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Your son has a URI associated with cold and cough. The Dr has prescribed antibiotic + cough syrup. This is more than sufficient for his age.
If running nose is severe - antihistamine can be added - with consultation.
Usually the DR does not give heavy dose of antibiotic. Complete the course of Clamp kid tab and if the infection is not responsive he may switch to higher antibiotic.
This method is followed to prevent the infection getting resistance to antibiotics. So wait patiently and observe the response.
Prevention is better than cure. Discuss with the Dr - how to avoid future URI.
Best wishes

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

The medication is sufficient for cough and cold with thick yellow mucus.

If there is any nose block, you can put nasal drops into each nostril.

It will take 5 t0 7 days to clear the cough and cold.

I advise you to continue the medication as per the advise and go for follow up with the pediatrician if there is no relief.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Continue the medications as advised by your doctor.
Monitor for the following in a child with cough.
1.     Rapid breathing.
2.     Chest indrawing while breathing.
3.     Abnormal noise while breathing.
4.     Nasal flaring
5.     Bluish discoloration of fingers (cyanosis)
6.     Irritability or lethargy
If your baby has any of these you should consult your doctor immediately

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
