Child Has Fever, Runny Nose, Fast Breathing. Earlier Had Pneumonia. Given Calpol
my daughter is 2 years old and has fever of 38.45 earlier today which i gave calpol and had mild fever last night in bed. she was also sick last night and a lot of phlem came up. she is irritable and has runny nose today and her breathing is faster than norm. she had pneumonia last nov too. worried she has it again but no coughing this time.
The presentation which you are describing regarding your daughter can be simple viral fever and presenting as fever and breathing problem, but if the severity of fever and breathing problem is more and is not subsiding after 2 days and she is also having runny nose with phlem, than it is good that you consult some doctor to make sure that this is not pneumonia and there is no need of antibiotics.
Some time it happens that simple viral fever can progress to pneumonia, some time due to complications of viral fever only.
So, it is good that you have a consultation with doctor to make sure this is not pneumonia.
Hello I have gone through your complaints. As your baby is having fever there is a chance of infection. As your child is having running nose along with increased effort to breath she can have another episode of lower respiratory tract infection. The other thing which is most common with fever , cold and increased effort to breathe is simple nasal block which can be associated with upper respiratory tract infection.
Thank you. Good day
Hi
Thanks for your concern.
As you said your baby is having fever , increase respiratory rate .cold and is irritable so i suggest you to get her examined by a pediatrician to evaluate the cause and treat accordingly.she may need some investigations like CBC,X ray chest,
In the meantime give paracetamol for fever, give her warm fluids to drink.
