Child Has Bump On Gum With Yellow Puss. Had Strep. No Pain. Cure?
My 12 year old daughter has a 1cm white bump on her gum. Tender to touch. She squeezed it and a yellowish puss came out. It does not hurt now. She has one at a time but has had several over the past few weeks. My son who is 9 has started getting them. They both had strep recently which I am not sure if it has anything to do with it.
Hello ,
Thanks for posting your query.
The bump on gums of 12 year old daughter may be due to abscess developed as a result of deep dental caries of involved tooth.
I would suggest you to visit a dentist soon and get root canal treatment or extraction of tooth done, depending on severity of lesion.
Take complete course of antibiotics too.
Maintain good oral hygiene.
IN your 9 year old son,the bump may be due to similar reasons.
I would suggest you to include vitamin rich food into your diet.
To improve gum health,vitamin-c containing fruits and iron, folic acid supplements has to be taken.
Take care.
I understand that your daughter has a small boil on her gums . This could be abscess due long standing dental infection from a decayed tooth or even gum infection. It is advised to check this with dentist.Meanwhile lukewarm saline rinse will help. Drink lots of liquids.
Swelling in the gums and pus formation indicates gingival infection or gingival abscess.
It is caused due poor oral hygiene ,improper brushing and flossing that leads to accumulation of bacterial plaque and calculus deep in the gum pockets and root surfaces of the teeth.
It needs to be treated by thorough professional deep scaling of gums and root planing of the teeth to remove all the irritants ,this will help in resolving the symptoms followed by a course of antibiotic and analgesics.
i would suggest you to go for symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine.
According to your clinical history i suspect that your child had developed a gum boil , this can be due to physical or chemical trauma, long standing dental infection.
I would suggest you to take your child to the Dentist get thorough clinical checkup done if necessary take the x-rays.
If required start with the treatment of tooth involved, drainage of abscess is required.
Take complete course of antibiotics and analgesics.
Maintain a good oral hygiene take antiseptic mouthwash gargles twice daily.
Hi,
Thanks for asking query,
The bump on her gum may be due to gingival abscess, which mainly occur due to improper oral hygiene and food lodgment .
I suggest you to go to the doctor and get the scaling done , maintain good oral hygiene , brush twice daily , use the antiseptic mouthwash twice daily.
Your son also seems to have similar problem ,use same treatment advice for him and keep the check
on there eating habbits also.
As a policy, any bump must be removed! - if it is pus, it must be drained.
Then the cause should be sought after -
If it is in the same place - dental caries, deep sinus not able to drain and so on is responsible - the dentists do excellent jobs in such situations..
If it is at different places, systemic causes (minor forms of immune deficiency) should be investigated / if the other child also has it, hereditary factors may need consideration...
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
