Child. Recurring Cold, Cough, Fever. Prescribed Montair, Nasal Spray And Asthalin Inhaler. Side Effects From Continuous Use?

my son four and a half year old is having recurrent cold , cough and fever once he started his kindergarten in June. I consulted his pediatrician and my son is now under Montair-4(montelukast-4mg), Mometasone Aqueous nasal spray IP and also asthalin inhaler . For 2 weeks he didnt have any problem once i started giving him montair -4. But from last sunday onwards he is again having running nose and cough. I gave him asthalin puff, but still having cough. Today doctor gave me Budecort 100 inhaler. and asked to take 1 puff each in the morning and night for 2 weeks and to continue with 1 puff in the morning for 2 months. I am worried about my son. Is it safe to use this continuously for months?? Does this have any side effects.? Is it advisable to take Budecort and Montair together??? when should I use asthalin puff??? I need your valuable information. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Recurrent upper respiratory infections are common in children below the age of 6 years due to exposure to frequent infections and this frequency further increases after joining kindergarten.

Your child seems having hyper reactive airway disease with allergic rhinitis as per your history and the doctor prescription.

I advise you to continue the medication as per the doctor advise.

Use of inhaler medication in indicated situation is safer and have more benefits.

The side effects are minimal and some times negligible if you compare with the benefits of these medications.

After budecort inhaler use,ask the child to rinse mouth with water and gargle to remove the aerosolized drug deposit in oral cavity.

Budecort and montair can be taken together as they belong to different groups.

Asthalin inhaler is a reliever medication it can be used when the child is having cough with wheezing, hurried breathing as required.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
