Chest X-ray Showed Fibronodular Disease. Sputum Culture Positive. Advised TB Skin Test. No Other Symptoms. Advice

Hi there,
Recently I did a chest x-ray and it showed fibronodular disease L apex activity unknown. I do not have any of the TB symptoms (no coughing or sweating at night...). Doctor recommended to sputum smear and sputum culture. The Smear report showed negative but the culture (2 weeks after only) shows positive 1+........Doctor recommended to do a TB Skin Test as well and was 18mm......The doctor said I still have to wait til the full culture report before they make the final conculsion........But I am so nurvouse now.....can you tell that I am active or not with the aforementioned info.

Thanks.

Hi User
Thanks for posting your query on healthcare magic
Fibronodular lesions in Chest X ray with sputum culture positive for MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULI definitely require complete work up.
Diagnosis of TB is usually done on the basis of background status ( live in endemic area), classical clinical features, Chest Xray and CT scan thorax signs, skin test for tuberculosis, and sputum stain and culture.
Sputum stain positive is very specific finding but not always present.
You may have CT thorax to define X ray finding more precisely. Positive culture can not be ignored unless there is possibility of contamination or identification of organism is questionable.
Regarding stating of TB treatment overall assessment is very important. I advise you to complete evaluation a then come to any conclusion.
Hope this helps, wish you best health,
