Can Ventricular Septal Defect Closed By Itself Or Operated?

Hello, My son was diagnosed with a 5 mm VSD at the age of 4 months and doctor suggested to go for a echo after 6 months. He is 8 months old now but don t have any symptoms of short breathing etc. How big is the size of the VSD for his age? Can it be closed by itself? Thank You, Murthy

Hello dear, welcome to health care magic forum.
unlike ASD, most of the VSD s closes its own.
So surgery is rarely needed.majority of the closure occurs by the age of 10.
Hope you got it cleared. Thank you
