Can Use Of Contraceptive Sponge Cause Painful Urination And Smelly, Vaginal Discharge?

Hi, I am having a green mucus smelling and looking discharge coming from my vulva. It is very painful to urinate. This just started this morning after having unprotected sex with a Today Contraceptive sponge (with spermicide in it). I was also on the last day of my period when I had the sponge in and had sex last night. I started taking Minastren birth control a week ago. I have never had an std. Please help!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi thanks for asking question.

Here you have mucus discharge...
First of all get your urine examined. If pus cells present Then it is urinary tract infection.Antibiotic needed for it....

If no UTI then discharge may be by gonorrhea or chlamydia like genital tract infection.Culture needed for it...

Drink more water....
Fruits taken more
Cranberry juice useful...

It is better to do your per speculum examination of genital area for further examination and work up....

Take care....
