Can The Body Build A Resistance To Lyrica After Its Prolonged Intake?

Can your body build up a tolerance to Lyrica? My sister has Cerebral Palsy and a pinched nerve in L-2 to L-3, she is on 75mg every 8 hours but the pain in her right upper thigh is unbearable at present. She is real tight as she is a Spastic Cerebral Palsy, she has been on this dosage for probably a year or a little longer now.

Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* The Lyrica is a GABA derivative functioning as a calcium channel
blocker.

* Over a period of time, long term uses of Lyrica has major impact as
receptor down regulation phenomenon, in which though there is
clinically standard drug level in the body, its effects are blunted.

Kindly discuss the current symptoms level with your doc for further guidelines regarding the current dosage with or without change of the medication further to cure the issue in a better smarter clinical way.

Wish your sister best recovery.
Regards.
