Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
m om is 84 is in hospital has mild dementia was admitted with constipation and bad smelling vomit but now really confused is talking a load of nonesence had loads of test and we have been told her gallbladder is swollen and is making her breathless. is this right?
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
I feel your mom is suffering from Acalculous cholecystitis which may be seen with a variety of other systemic disease processes (sarcoidosis, cardiovascular disease). These co-morbidities can cause breathlessness. The setting of acute gallbladder inflammation complicating severe underlying illness is characteristic of acalculous disease.Ultrasound, CT abdomen usually demonstrates a large, tense, static gallbladder without stones and with evidence of poor emptying over a prolonged period . With the limited information you have provided, no other definite conclusion is difficult. Regards
