Can Swallowed Mucus From A Sinus Infection Produce Bloody Stools?

Can swallowed mucus from a sinus infection produce bloody stools? Since the onset of a severe sinus infection, I've experienced two darkened, bloody stools. I'm not experiencing any other symptoms and am in good health, having even recently lost 25 pounds. Thank you.

Hi

Thanks for your query.

Noted the history and understood the concerns. Swallowed mucus from sinus can not cause direct blood in stool; but if the mucus is infected then it is possible that there can be colitis or ano-proctitis that can cause such a problem.
Or these two can be due to different causes.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get the stool and blood tests done.
Ano-proctoscopy and colonoscopy can help better to delineate the cause.
Once the cause is found it can be treated according to the causes and get well.
Please do not take this light.
Also take an opinion of an ENT Surgeon for the mucus in sinuses, may need CT scan of the sinuses to know the exact cause so that a proper prescription based medications can help you a lot.
Till then instill the decongestant nasal drops, take steam inhalations; avoid extreme weather changes.

Take Care
