Can Stress Cause Chest Pain And Cough?

Hello sir.. My mother is 47 years old and she is having severe cough especially in the early morning from last few years. We trated her at many places but that cures for very few days and restarts again. I am really worried as she is having chest pain with coughing blood 2 to 3 times in last few days. Also she is having appetite loss because of stress or something else I am not sure. We did some tests thinking of TB, but it came out -ve. could you please suggest.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Your mother is having cough, hemoptysis (blood in sputum) and loss of appetite.
All these are common symptoms of tuberculosis, pneumonia and bronchitis.
I don't think, stress can cause these symptoms especially hemoptysis.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. Chest x ray to rule out tuberculosis and pneumonia.
3. PFT (pulmonary function test) for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
She may need antibiotic, anti tubercular drugs and inhaled treatment on the basis of these reports.
Don't worry, she will be alright. First diagnose herself and then start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
