Can Spotting Indicate Pregnancy?

Hi. I first had intercourse on 10th May. However, I used protection and the withdrawal method. I took the ipill just to be in the safe side. Then I had intercourse on 14th May and I used full protection plus the ipill. After 4 days, I experienced some spotting. The next day it was heavy and then again I was spotting. What could this be? Could I be pregnant or is the ipill causing it to happen? I have taken ipills before and never experienced this. And I got my last period on the 1st May till the 5th. I have a cycle of 28 days. I am due on the 29th/30th.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern
You can no use I pill frequently as it cause menstrual irregularity. I pill is 95 percent protective against the pregnancy. Spotting and heavy period was occur due to hormonal dysfunction as i pill contain high progesterone.
Chance of pregnancy is less as you use both protection and I pill. By I pill, period may be delayed or earlier.
Spotting followed by heavy period suggests possibility of ectopic pregnancy.
So if period will delay by 8-10 days, confirm the ectopic pregnancy by USG/Blood HCG.
Hope this may help you
Best regards
