I am a healthy woman, 77 years old. My mother started alzheimers at 80 years of age and my two older sisters also were diagnose with alzheimers at 80 . I wonder if I should be tested or begin the use or begin aricept? I have noticed some decline in my speech, searching for the right word but no other problems. Advice?

Hi,
Language disturbance alone is not sufficient to make a diagnosis of Alzheimer's. If the problem is associated with memory impairment, then a diagnosis of Alzheimer's can be thought of.
Yes you have a significant risk of developing Alzheimer's as your family history suggests.
However, you can slow it by being mentally and physically active.
A mini-mental examination if taken can help more in evaluation of your memory. Drugs have its own side effects, you can delay it unless prescribed.
Take care.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
