Can Sore Throat Be Caused By Inhaling Bleach Fumes?

A week ago, I used bleach to clean the bathroom sink. I inhaled some fumes. I didn't realize how dangerous bleach is. Now, a week later, I have a sore throat. Could this be caused by the bleach? The sore throat has lasted 3 days now. I don't think I have a cold because I don't have any other symptoms, just a dry, sore throat.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain in case if you have inhaled bleach fumes and after a week there is sore throat then there is a possibility that the sore throat is due to infection in throat and not due to inhaling of bleach fumes as in case if it might be due to inhaling of the bleach fumes it would have occurred immediately or in an hour or so after inhalation of fumes..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can do a clinical examination and also do throat swab culture if infection is suspected..
In case if there is no infection and is due to bleach fumes hen warm saline gargles and taking Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation will help..
In case of infection Antibiotics like Levofloxacin, anti-inflammatory painkiller and warm saline gargles will relieve..
Sucking throat lozenges can be soothing in both the cases..
Avoid spicy and hard foods and gargle with a numbing mouthwash for relieving pain..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
