Can Shellfish Cause Hives?

I am taking this is reaction to shellfish. I have taken 1 tablet last night. I had great success but I guess in my effort to relax today I had 2 glasses of wine. Am I okay to take 1 tonight? Also had a shot at an urgent care center to calm the hives down.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of hives which seems to be due to allergic reaction to shellfish as that is acting as an exaggerating factor for your condition. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to apply cold compresses and apply petroleum jelly and protect them from sun exposure.

- Avoid itching or pricking rashes.

- Take anti histamine like benadryl twice a day.

If condition does not get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with corticosteroid ointment and antibiotics .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
