Can Septoplasty Improve Breathing And Congestion Problem?

I have had chronic congestion & my ct scan shows deviation of anterior nasal septum of 4 mm. My ENT doctor plans to do sinuplasty & turbinate reduction, but is leaving it up to me to decide about septoplasty. Should I do this as well? Will it improve my breathing & congestion? (I was assaulted many years ago, knocked down & kicked in the face--then my nose was rebroken to fix it, therefore probably why my septum is deviated.) What do you think I should do?

Hello,

Yes, definitely it would help in deviated nasal septum. For further assessment you may require X-ray nose after ENT consultation. Septoplasty may help to relieve symptoms. Till then continue steam inhalation and use nasal saline drops.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
