Can Salmonella Cause Eosinophils And Basophils To Go High ?

i had salmenella back in september all my blood work was fine while i had it. I was even given antibiotics. After the Thanksgiving holiday I wasn't feeling well (i wasn't myself) but no fever just swollen lymph nodes. So my family doc gave me a blood test to get done and more antibiotics. Blood test came back with low white cell count & neutrophils and High monocytes & eosiniphils. Told to come back in month and complete antibiotics. Just went back still not feeling well still swollen lymph nodes and completed a second blood test. My white cells are the lowest of normal range. However my eosinophils and eosinophils absolute count is still high, went up 2.9 units and my basophils is on the high end. they are send me to hematology. could this all be from the salmenella?

Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Very good observation. Nothing specific like this has been mentioned in the literature, but it is our observation. After an attack of salmonella the blood picture is like this as you mentioned. In the actual attack the eosinophils are actually reduced and as the time passes on / on recovery the count of eosinophils and monocytes increases.
But the White cell count can be low because of the bone marrow depression caused by salmonella.
Yes , an opinion of a hematologist is a must, as well as the FNAC= fine needle cytology of the swollen lymph nodes should be done and if this too is inconclusive it is better to go for a lymph node biopsy.
I find this answer helpful
