Can Reduced Dosage Of Levoxyl Help In Reducing T4 Levels?

I had the right lobe of my thyroid removed in 1977 and have been on medication ever since. I have been taking 100 mcg. of Levoxyl. My dr. wants to reduce that to .88 mcg. saying my T4 is too high. What would be normal? It is now 17.1 and had been 15.7 in June.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Incomplete data like age, gender, body weight, detailed report of thyroid function test including TSH???

Following the thyroidectomy (surgical removal of thyroid gland), the recommended dose of Levoxyl is 1.3-μg/kg of body weight.

You seem to be taking a slightly high dose of Levoxyl which has resulted in increased T4 levels.

So, get the dose of Levoxyl reduced as rightly suggested by your doctor and
you should have your thyroid levels checked 6-8 weeks later to check the levels of T4 and to keep the TSH level in the range of 0.3 to 3 mIu/mL.

Hope these answer your query.
