Can Rebound Headaches Prolong For As Long As 20 Years?

Is it possible to have Rebound Headaches for 20 years? I get daily headaches..and I ve had them for 20 years since I was in a car accident. No medications seem to prevent the headaches and my nuerologist thinks they may be rebound. But if I don t take an analgesic I am in severe pain every day! How long do I need to stop the analgesic before I know?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

After 20 years of daily headaches it is hard to understand how these could be rebound from anything but is more likely to be caused by some old festering injury of your neck. Have you had a CT of your neck? that should show the problem. The usual doc will give you a steroid injection at the most painful spot and if that gives you relief you have the cause. Fixing it is another issue.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
