Can Poison Ivy Rashes Appear On Other Parts Of Body?
Can poison ivy rash (not blisters) appear on other body parts? can the oil travel through your blood? How long can it stay in your system? The blisters appeared on May 10, on my forearms where it made contact Earlier that week. the itching has calmed down but I have a few new hives on my belly and two on my groin. Now I don t know if it was My scratching that has resulted in a large black and blue bruise on my groin or I have another problem.
Poison ivy rash can cause allergic rashes only on coming in contact with the poisonous rash of the plant. But it is possible to pick up the rash from plant if it gets stuck to clothing, pets, garden tools, and other items that have come in contact.
You are suggested to get a warm bath and apply ointment hydrocortisone or calamine lotion or Soframycin ointment on the area affected. All are equally effective. You can take antihistamines at bed time to ease discomfort. Sometimes, you will get relieve in 48 hours but at times you it may take a longer period depending on the severity of the rash.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
